Please note: For safety consideration, no one under the age of 13 will be allowed in the exhibition hall.

Opening Session and Keynote Address

Monday June 21 - 8:30am, Riverside Theatre, Level 2:

The 51st Annual Symposium will begin at 8:30am on Monday, June 21. We are pleased to announce that the Hon Norman Moore MLC, WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum will officially open the Symposium. This will be followed by “A Welcome to Country” from past and traditional land owners on which the Symposium is being held, the Nyungar people. Mr Mike Allison, GM Reservoir Management, Chevron, will give the first keynote, whilst Dr Lutz Riepe, Principal Petrophysicist of Petronas Carigali, will give an entertaining, yet thought provoking address. Mr W David Kennedy, Vice President of Technology, will officially open the technical sessions.

Speakers' Breakfast

Speakers and session chairs are invited to attend a complimentary breakfast on the morning of their session. Breakfast is at 6:30am, Monday to Wednesday in Meeting 4 (M4), Level 2.

Speakers' Preparation Centre

Speakers are asked to check in their Powerpoint presentations at the Speaker Preparation Centre in advance of their session, to ensure compatibility and consistency with the venue computer system. The Speaker Preparation Centre will be located in Meeting 12 (M12), Level 2 and will be open from Sunday 9:00am - 6:00pm, Monday and Tuesday 7:30am to 5:00pm and Wednesday 7:30am to 12.00noon.

Poster Presentations

Posters will be on display in the Cental Foyer, Level 2 all day Monday and Tuesday and till noon Wednesday. There will be a session dedicated to Posters on Tuesday from 1:20pm to 3:20pm.
Poster authors will stand with their posters for discussion, from 9.20am - 10.20am on Wednesday 23 June, in the Central Foyer, Level 2.

Partners' Hospitality Suite

The Partners’ Hospitality Suite. located in the Johnny Walker Lounge, Level 3, will be open Monday through Wednesday, from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Door Prize Draw

The Door Prize will be drawn immediately after the close of the technical session on Wednesday 23 June 2010.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!

General Information

Child Care: No formal arrangements have been made for child care during the Symposium. Please check with the concierge at your hotel for assistance with babysitting services during your stay.

Dress: Perth weather in June is around 16 degrees Celsius with cool and occasional wet days. Some warm clothing is recommended, particularly for the evenings.

Goods and Services Tax (GST): A tax refund is not available for goods or services consumed in Australia – and therefore the GST component of registration fees, accommodation, tours, etc is not claimable.

Insurance Advice: Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that at the time you register for the Symposium and book your travel, you take out an insurance policy of your choice. The policy should include
(1) loss of fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the Symposium;
(2) loss through cancellation of the Symposium;
(3) loss of international/domestic air fares through cancellation for any reason including force majeure, medical expenses, loss or damage to person or property, additional expenses; and
(4) repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. The secretariat cannot take any responsibility In the event of industrial disruptions OR for any participant failing to arrange his or her own insurance.

Shopping Hours: There are many speciality shops in Perth and Fremantle. Shops are open from 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, (with late night shopping until 9:00pm on Thursday, and in Perth on Friday), 8:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday and from 12:00noon to 5:00pm on Sunday. These hours may differ slightly from shop to shop.

Smoking Policy: No smoking is allowed in restaurants, bars and shopping centres in Perth.

Electrical Power Plugs and Sockets: voltage in Western Australia is 220-240V, and power plugs are sockets are of Type I, see details here.
